Spirit of Rodeo Shared in Images TIA Exhibit Honors Serpa and Daughter

      Tucson, Ariz. (Jan. 27, 2012)-An exhibit featuring Arizona rodeo photography by Louise Serpa and her daughter Mia Larocque is on display at Tucson International Airport's Lower Link Gallery through March 3.

        Planned prior to Serpa's recent passing on Jan. 4, the mother-daughter exhibit is now a tribute show. It includes work spanning from the 1960s to recent times.

      Known as "the Ansel Adams of rodeo," Serpa recorded nearly 50 years' worth of Tucson rodeos. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association honored Serpa with its PRCA Excellence in Photography Award in 2005; Serpa was also inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. She died at the age of 86 following a three-year battle with cancer.

      This is the fifth time Serpa's work has been on temporary exhibit at TIA. Two pieces are on permanent exhibit in the airport's ground level near baggage belt 4.
